Description
The Xiaomi Redmi 12 boasts a 6.79-inch IPS LCD panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels. This display is a significant upgrade from the 6.5-inch panel found on its predecessor, the Redmi 10. While it lacks fancy HDR-related features (which is understandable given its price range), it still manages to deliver a peak brightness of 540 nits (close to the advertised 550 nits). Unfortunately, there’s no proper ambient light sensor, so brightness control relies on the front-facing camera, which can be energy-consuming and unreliable. Additionally, the absence of a hardware proximity sensor affects the voice calling experience, as the screen often turns on during calls, leading to accidental touches. Despite these limitations, the display’s contrast ratio of 1:1507 is commendable .The color accuracy in the Standard color preset is surprisingly good, with a dE2000 of just 1.6, although it sacrifices about 50 nits of brightness. In this color-accurate mode, the display reaches a maximum of 501 nits.
As for battery life, the Redmi 12 houses a 5,000 mAh battery paired with the not-so-demanding Helio G88 SoC, resulting in excellent endurance. However, the overall endurance score is slightly lower than that of the Redmi 10. While video playback runtimes are better, web browsing scores fall short. The software difference between the Redmi 10 and Redmi 12 (MIUI 14 based on Android 13 for the latter) may account for this discrepancy. Nevertheless, the Redmi 12 still manages a respectable overall score of 117 hours
